Cyanotype – an exercise in magic!
This work was the result of a short course in Cyanotype printing. Having found the objects on a walk we used a light sensitive chemical mix on paper and applied it in darkroom conditions where it was hung to dry. Arranging the found objects on the dried treated paper we kept them in place with a sheet of glass and took them outside to be exposed to sunlight.
The resulting change in colour of the paper was not encouraging as it became a rather ugly grey but when “cooked” to a dark hue a quick trip to an indoor sink and removal of glass and objects allowed a rinse in cold water – and the magical appearance of a rich deep blue background and fine silhouettes of the found objects. An artistic adventure anyone can try.
